“You disappeared,” he said.
Miss Linden did not jump. That surprised him more than her presence did. She closed the book—marveling at how unhurried she was, how she treated his arrival in a shadowed library with the same calm she gave everything—and looked up.
“So did you, Your Grace.”
“I live here. That gives me an unfair advantage.”
“Does it? I should have thought it gave you an infinite supply of excuses, and very little need for them.”
